Alain coordonne Avignon Provence Greeters, un réseau lancé en juin 2024 visant un tourisme convivial et authentique. Installé depuis 30 ans dans le Vaucluse, il partage avec passion l’histoire locale, des temps antiques au Moyen Âge papal. Son projet, né de son goût pour les échanges internationaux et les balades familiales, séduit largement le secteur touristique local.

 
Je suis Alain, Greeter à Avignon. Plus précisément, j’anime et je coordonne le réseau Avignon Provence Greeters, lancé officiellement le 1er juin 2024. Installé dans le Vaucluse depuis une trentaine d’années, j’ai toujours aimé partager l’histoire d’Avignon, de l’Antiquité à aujourd’hui, avec une affection particulière pour le Moyen Âge, si marqué par l’influence des papes.
Mon ambition à travers ce projet est simple : offrir une expérience touristique apaisée et conviviale, fondée sur la rencontre humaine et la découverte authentique du territoire. L’idée m’est venue naturellement, nourrie par mon goût pour les balades en famille, les échanges interculturels — notamment via le couchsurfing — et ce plaisir de raconter, d’écouter, de créer du lien.
Très vite, cette démarche a séduit les offices de tourisme locaux et l’agence départementale de développement touristique, tous enthousiastes à l’idée de promouvoir un tourisme plus humain, plus durable.
Chaque promenade avec les Greeters est unique. Ce sont des moments de partage aussi riches pour les visiteurs que pour nous, les bénévoles. Le vrai défi aujourd’hui, c’est de répondre à toutes les demandes, tant l’engouement est fort. J’anime souvent des balades en anglais, ce qui représente un petit défi personnel que je relève avec plaisir — c’est stimulant et gratifiant.
Le groupe de bénévoles s’étoffe peu à peu, et chaque nouvelle rencontre est une source d’enrichissement personnel. L’un de mes souvenirs les plus marquants reste cette balade, en octobre dernier, d’un jeune Américain accompagné de sa mère. Devant le mémorial des « Morts pour la France », à la mairie d’Avignon, il a évoqué, très ému, son grand-père Cherokee, vétéran du débarquement en Normandie. Ce moment, à la fois intime et inattendu, chargé d’émotion et d’histoire, a laissé une trace indélébile — autant que les vieilles pierres d’Avignon ou qu’un simple chocolat chaud dégusté en terrasse.
Être Greeter, pour moi, c’est avant tout l’art du partage : raconter mon histoire tout en écoutant celles des autres, venus parfois de l’autre bout du monde, ou simplement du village d’à côté.
